BEACH SAFETY TIPS

PAY ATTENTION TO THE COLOR OF THE FLAGS FLOWN AT EACH LIFEGUARD TOWER LOCATED ON GALVESTON'S PUBLIC BEACHES. PLEASE REFER TO THE GALVESTON ISLAND BEACH PATROL WEBSITE FOR DETAILED INFORMATION.

OBEY ALL POSTED SIGNS.

NEVER SWIM ALONE.

LEARN TO IDENTIFY RIP CURRENTS AND STAY AWAY.

AVOID SWIMMING AT THE ENDS OF THE ISLAND. THERE ARE SUDDEN DROP-OFFS INTO DEEP WATER ON BOTH THE EAST AND WEST END OF THE ISLAND, CAUSING STRONG CURRENTS THAT CAN EASILY CATCH EVEN EXPERIENCED SWIMMERS OFF GUARD. ENTERING THE WATER IS PROHIBITED IN BOTH AREAS.

ON PRIVATE BEACHES, EXERCISE EXTRA CAUTION, AS THERE WILL BE NO LIFEGUARDS PRESENT.

ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN AND INVEST IN A BEACH UMBRELLA.

STAY HYDRATED. IF YOU ARE PLANNING A LONG DAY AT THE BEACH, MAKE SURE TO BRING A COOLER WITH PLENTY OF WATER TO AVOID OVERHEATING IN THE SOUTH TEXAS SUN.
